SeaBioComp to be presented at 'Use of Plastics and textiles in a marine environment' event 29th September 2022, Belgium

The SeaBioComp project will be presented at this event taking place in Flanders on 29th September 2022.

Due to the growing markets for fish and seaweed farming, energy production, boats, pontoons, anchoring and buoy elements, the demand for alternative materials for applications in a marine environment is also increasing.

Textile and plastic materials are increasingly being used in maritime applications where renew-ability and sustainability are important concerns. The materials must also meet the highest technical performance and withstand the harsh marine environment in the long term.

Meeting these diverse requirements is a major challenge. In this horizon exploration we go into this in more detail.

Elke Demeyer from Centexbel, Lead Partners in the SeaBioComp project will be discussing the development of bio-based composites for the marine environment and the 4 different manufacturing techniques that the project has been trialing.

In addition Maelenn Le Gall and Peter Davies from project partner Ifremer, will be discussing the long-term durability of the SeaBioComp bio-based composites in seawater.

The event will take place physically at Centexbel at Technologiepark 70 in Zwijnaarde and also via Team. Starting at 11.45am with a light lunch, the presentations will begin at 12.15pm and run until 3pm.

There is a charge to attend this event; full details can be found at https://www.centexbel.be/en/agenda/horizonverkenning-maritieme-toepassingen-van-textiel-en-kunststoffen
